so what if past life memories aren`t real?

the experiences are a metaphor for growth of the psyche now.

the therapist is interested in learning about how a person shapes thier reality, and so if a client brings forward a scenario about being napoleon in a past life then we can evaluate what being a tyrannical dictator means to a person in thier current life.

this model can be applied to any past life, no matter how grand or trivial the character in memory is.

That could actually be a fruitful way to approach the subject. Obviously, the memories have meaning and importance to those who have them. But if they aren't real, in an empirical sense, they could be revealing of the psyche.
